Volunteer
Water Monitoring Program
Since 2003, the HCSWCD has been
working with Lake Associations
throughout Hamilton County to
identify hot spots, or areas of
pollution concerns, that
threaten the health of a lake.
Baseline data is collected in
bays and along the shore so that
future data may be accurately
analyze and changing concerns
and priorities of lake health
can be identified.
Every summer, volunteers receive
a kit to monitor their lake for
parameters including
conductivity, pH, temperature,
dissolved oxygen, nitrates,
phosphates, and invasive plants.
A GPS is included to record
coordinates of hot spots.
Kits include a YSI meter and
probe, Lamott limnology testing
kit with reagents and solutions,
GPS unit, secchi disk and tape,
sampling bottles, invasive plant
rake, aqua scope, and cooler
with ice packs. Dye kits are
also provided for septic
systems. Training Sessions
are given to volunteers.
