Invasive Species
Adirondack Park Invasive Species Awareness Week
Former Governor
Pataki declared the second week of July as Adirondack Park Invasive Species
Awareness
Week (ISAW) on June 5, 2006. The purpose of ISAW is to increase
public awareness about invasive
species through educational presentations,
surveying and management efforts, and lectures. This year from
July 5 – July
11, 2009, a plethora of events will be offered throughout the park ranging
from aquatic plant identification and paddling trips to interpretative walks
and displays. Check out the Adirondack Park Invasive
Plant Program’s website
for a complete listing of events at
http://www.adkinvasives.com/InvasiveSpeciesAwarenessWeek.html.
Check
back to see the events the
HCSWCD has scheduled for the week. Learn about
invasive species of
Hamilton County, pick up brochures
and literature, view
specimens, and have your questions answered about aquatic and terrestrial
invasive
plants. Help to stop the invaders and protect the environmental
integrity of the Adirondacks by participating
in an event during ISAW. Is your organization interested in an invasive
species presentation? For
more information, or to schedule an event, contact the HCSWCD
at 518-548-3991.
