GIS is more than just creating
maps; by utilizing the many facets of
GIS, we are able to perform spatial
analysis functions that allow the study
of locations and shapes of geographic
features and the relationships between
them. GIS can provide answers to simple
questions like: “Where is the best
location for a new facility?”or “How
many permanent year round residences are
located inside a specific land use
area?” GIS is a tool that can be used to
aid in the delivery and presentation of
just such real world questions using
maps and charts. By using GIS mapping
and analytical tools, relevant
information can be provided based on the
data contained in each map layer and
results can be presented in a
visual format.
