The Hamilton County Soil and
Water Conservation District's
mission is to manage and promote
the wise use of natural
resources in Hamilton County.
The office staff assists land
owners, communities, and
municipalities by providing
technical and educational
assistance through our
diversified conservation and
water quality programs.
Information and assistance are
available on
soil characteristics,
alternative septic systems,
erosion control,
permit assistance,
GIS,
lake data,
invasive species, and much
more.

Hamilton County is situated
in the central Adirondacks
of New York State and is one
of only two counties that
lie completely within the
Adirondack Park.

It is the third largest
county in the state, with an
area of 1,808 sq. mi,
of which 87 sq. mi (4.84%),
is water.

It is the least populated
with only 5,279 year round
residents.

The highest point of
elevation is Snowy Mountain
at 3889 ft and the lowest
point of elevation is the
Sacandaga River at Benson at
771 ft.

Seventy percent of the
county is state owned land
that is entirely forest
preserve. This area is
mandated by the State
Constitution to be left
unaltered by humans.

Hamilton County, and the
State of New York.
